Week 3

All of the children have now settled very nicely into the nursery setting and are following the routines well.  Many children have now brought their toothbrushes and have begun to brush their teeth daily.

Nursery children have been concentrating on learning body parts, in particular the facial features.  They have made paper faces and pancake faces.  They have been singing songs about the body parts including 'Head, shoulders, knees and toes' and 'My eyes, my nose my mouth, my ears'.  They are exploring different colours through circle time activities and craft activities.

Preschool children are also learning to recognise the names of different body parts and have been investigating the sounds that can be made from different parts of the body i.e. clapping hands, slapping thighs, clicking fingers etc.  They are learning the names of body parts through songs such as 'The Hokey Cokey'.  They have drawn self-portraits and are in the process of making life size versions of themselves on paper.  They are discussing their feelings and talking about hygiene.

They have been introduced to the sound, song and shape for the letter 'a' and are practising the sound whilst making crafts related to the sound 'a'.  They are learning to recognise the number 2 and are exploring numbers through counting songs such as 'Five little monkeys' and 'Sally the camel has 5 humps'.
