Week 13 Photos

Week 13

This week, the children have received many visitors to talk about their jobs and why they are important.

On Monday the school doctor, Dr Maha came to visit.  She is a familiar face to the children as she comes to the Nursery/Preschool on an almost daily basis to check up on both children and staff.

On Tuesday one of the school librarians, Mr Luka, came to tell the children how he looks after the library books and can help the children find the books they are looking for.  The children are looking forward to visiting the school library later in the year.

On Wednesday we were visited by Ms. Zikra who came to tell us about the job of a waitress.  The children enjoyed interacting through role play, pretending to be in a restaurant/cafe and ordering food from the menu.

On Thursday Mr Hassan, one of the school cleaners, demonstrated the different tools he uses to keep the school clean and how he uses them.  He explained how important it is to keep our school, homes, streets etc. clean and why his job is important.

On Saturday we were visited by Mr. Nasir, the school mechanic.  Mr Nasir showed the children some of the tools he uses when fixing/maintaining the cars and the jobs he does on a daily basis like checking the oil, topping up the water etc.  He told the children some stories of how he has fixed cars when they have broken down.

Saturday was Whole School Cultural Day where the school children were allowed to come to school in their normal clothes and pay a 5sdg contribution for a Cancer Charity.  The school children participated in activities for different regions around the world.  Whilst Nursery/Preschool weren't involved in the activities we did take a walk around the school and watch whilst some of the activities took place. The Asia team taught the children a song with greetings in different languages and the New Zealand team put on a special dance for us.  Many thanks to the parents who donated money to the Charity.

Nursery children had great fun making x-ray pictures and books this week.  They have been practising pencil control skills by tracing along lines and colouring skills by colouring in pictures.  They were busy learning colours and shapes whilst they do so.  They are learning to count objects through stacking bricks in the construction room to build walls/houses.

Preschool children have been focusing on letter d and number 10 this week.  They have made doctor's bags, dinosaurs, dogs and letter 'd' collages.  They have worked on carefully counting objects to 10.  To tie in with the letter 'd', the snack on Saturday was doughnuts.
