Week 11

It's been another busy week for both the Nursery and Preschool children.

This week we are wrapping up our theme about 'The Weather' and next week will start a new theme entitled 'People Who Help Us'.

Nursery children have made some beautiful umbrella pictures, snowy trees, mittens to represent the cold weather and have used star and circle shapes to make a sun.  They are showing increasing interest during circle time activities and are participating well.

Preschool children have been revising the letter sounds 'p', 'i', 'n' and have made some crafts relevant to those sounds including a peacock, island, and nest.  This week they have also been revising the colours and shapes and have been working on counting and recognition of number 8.

Some parents have started asking for daily reports on their child's learning and activities so that they can revise at home.  I would like to remind you that we run a play-based Nursery/Preschool where the children's learning is ongoing and often incidental.  There is no need to revise with your children at home as they are gaining all of the knowledge they need here.  In Reception class they will revise all of the letters and sounds again and then begin to read.  For those who are interested in gaining an  idea about what the children in Preschool have been exposed to thus far here is an example of the pictures in our 'Silly Soup Cans' that we use during circle time and individual groups.

In addition to the above set words, we include any other relevant objects in our environment, in story books, in pictures, colours, names of shapes, names of children and teachers etc.
There is no need for the children to learn how to read or spell any of these words.

Next week the Preschool children will learn the letter and sound for 'm' and the number 9.
