Week 8 from 13-18 October
This term we have introduced a new theme for the month,
Health and Safety –Keeping ourselves healthy and safe.
N is for Notes
The children were taught how to recognise a small n and capital N as well as how to write a small n using play dough, our white boards and sand.
How to write a small n: line down, up again, around and down.
We’ve
started with a great welcome back from Eid break this half-term with new
letters, numbers, shapes and colours to learn.
We also welcome
a new addition to our team, Miss Mai Mihaimeed, our English Language
Coordinator in the Early Years Unit for Unit for both age groups 2-3 and age 3-4.
Miss
Mai
is a British national and holds a BA degree In English language and
linguistics
(Hons) from the University of Kent in the UK. She also works as an
Editor at
Sudan Vision daily. Miss Mai
will be working with the age group 3-4, Foundation 1, introducing the
letter of
the week, using the well-designed programme “Jolly Phonics,” and will
support the
programmes with hands-on activities in addition to the work sheets.
Not only
this, but Miss Mai will be working closely with the children on their weekly
theme, while the Assistant Teachers support the activity in
their small groups. We hope this reorganisation of duties will be even more
effective in developing the language skills of your children.
Theme
This week the children were taught proper dental health.
Teaching young children proper dental hygiene is crucial to
promote lifelong healthy habits. It is normal for some children to be unwilling
to brush their teeth.
We have taken the chore out of brushing and made it fun by
providing and planning exciting lessons, activities and songs to encourage
healthy dental hygiene routines.
Happy and sad teeth
The
children carried out an experiment to see what would happen to a tooth
if it wasn't brush using an egg, brown paint and a toothbrush.
Literacy
This week, the children were introduced to the
letter N. The children took part in fun activities that reinforced the letter’s
sound and shape.
We learnt the Jolly Phonics letter N song:
“Hear the aeroplane
nnnnn (the children will spread their arms out mimicking
an aeroplane)
Hear the aeroplane nnnnnn
Hear the aeroplane
nnnnn

We made n for nests and n for night crafts:
The
children enjoyed making noodle necklaces and had fun eating delicious
noodles for lunch on Saturday. We also made and painted salt dough
letter ornaments and went on a hunt for cardboard cutout n's around the
centre area.
Numeracy, colours and shapes
The children also learnt all about the number 6, the colour orange and the star shape.
They learnt how to trace the number 6 and made a collage.
Our head teacher Ms Tahani also taught the children how to sort size by big, bigger and biggest and position words, in/out.
Next week the children will be learning the letter C and number 7 and will be taught about germs and keeping our hands clean.
