Week 10

Good Day parents

We'd like to thank all those who made it to the parents day on Saturday 1 November. We hope you all left feeling satisfied with the update on your child's progress so far. If anyone has an further questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Shayma or come to the school directly.

Here is a short slideshow that was played during the day (we apologise if your child does not appear in the video, we had some technical difficulties):

This week we introduced the children to the letter K and number 8, as well as the concept of healthy and unhealthy foods.

Theme

The children learnt all about healthy (good) foods, which make us happy :) and unhealthy (bad) foods which make us :( sad if we eat too much of.

The children were asked to name a variety of foods using plastic replicas and flash cards and determine whether they are healthy or unhealthy.

We played nutritional bingo to reinforce the concept, with the winning group receiving stickers as prizes.

The children also watched a video on fruits:

You can also watch this fun video with your child at home:

And sing a song together:

(To the tune of Are you Sleeping?)

Are you eating
are you eating
healthy foods, healthy foods?
For your body needs them,
for your body needs them,
everyday, everyday.

Literacy:

We introduced the letter k during circle time using the silly soup cards, flash cards and the Jolly Phonics song.

The letter k phonetically is the same sound as a hard c, which is Ka.

 Jolly phonics song:

We watched a story about Kasper the King of Kites:

 We made kites:

and kiwi fruits using paper plates.

The children also enjoyed finding the letter k in a balloon jumble inside the soft play area:

We finished off the week by shaping the letter k using play dough and making big k is for king crafts:

Numeracy:

During numeracy circle time, the children learnt the number 8, the concept of before and after and were introduced to the diamond shape.

They learnt to count to 8 and trace the number, as well as diamonds.

For the numeracy activity, the children made giant octopuses with 8 tentacles and number 8 crafts:
