Week 6

New Theme - Weather

Children in both Nursery and Preschool have begun to take a closer look at the weather this week.  They have been looking at the sky, sun, clouds, wind and rain.  They have also been discussing storms, lightning, thunder, hail and snow etc.

To tie in with 'Book Week' at the school, children from Year 5 came to do some paired reading with the Nursery and Preschool children.  It was a very enjoyable experience for all involved.  On Saturday morning, they went to school to see the children from Primary dressed up in their costumes for 'Book Character Day'. Some of the Nursery and Preschool children also came dressed up to join in the fun.

Nursery children have made rainbows, suns, moons, stars and clouds and have discussed the weather and the difference between night and day.  They have started learning songs about the weather and the days of the week.

Preschool children have also been discussing the weather and have made rainbows, clouds, umbrellas and rain.  They painted patterns on mittens for the cold weather and dressed up a snowman with warm clothing.  During the week they went to the school to collect autumn leaves that had fallen from the trees.  They found this great fun and managed to collect quite a quantity with which they made collages and trees.  They have been learning the letter formation and sound for the letter p along with objects that begin with the letter p.  They have moved on to recognition of the number 5 and have made some beautiful collages.
