Week 14

Week 14 was a very busy week with lots of visitors who came to talk about their jobs.

Mr. Bashir and Mr. Bushra came to talk about their jobs as Teachers, it was a special treat for the children as Mr Bushra plays the Violin.  The children learnt an Arabic song and got the opportunity to try the violin.

We were visited by Mr. Mulako the Baker who told the children all about baking bread, cakes, biscuits, pizza etc.  He explained the importance of being clean and wearing a special hat to cover his hair and wearing gloves for hygiene purposes.

Mr. Bakheet, the Bus Driver visited us and spoke all about his job.  He told us everything, from waking up early to make sure that the bus is in good condition, to the safety of the children whilst on  the bus and getting on and off.  Mr. Bakheet brings some of our children to the school everyday so he is a familiar face to them.

We were unable to find a vet to speak to the children so Mrs Stephanie, the school Vice Principal, kindly went undercover and stepped in to the role.  She brought us a variety of cuddly toy animals and spoke about the importance of the job of a vet in caring for and treating animals.  She taught the children a song about a dog and allowed the children to help bandage the cat's tail and stick a plaster on the camel's hump.  The children were interested.

Vaccinations - The booster immunsiations against measles went very smoothly this week and took place in the main school.  The children waited patiently for their turn and played in the Reception class play area once they had finished.  It was a great success for both Nursery and Preschool.

Nursery children have done many craft activities this week including Gingerbread Men, Bananas, Buses with photos of their groups and Standing Cats.  They have been spending their time painting, riding tricycles, piecing together Jigsaw puzzles, colouring, singing, dancing, extending play in the Role Play room and building in the construction room.  They are now able to stand beautifully in a line and follow instructions. The children are gaining much independence and confidence.

Preschool children have been revising all of the sounds that they have learnt so far - s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d. They have done activities to identify and discriminate the initial sounds in words.  Many are now able to identify words that begin with a given sound and give the initial sound of a given word.  They also revised numbers 1-5 and did activities based around one more (adding) and one less (taking away). The children were introduced to a new shape - heart.  They cut out and decorated the heart shapes, their scissor skills are becoming very good and some children are now able to cut on the line.  There has also been great improvement in their tracing and colouring skills.

The letter for week 15 is the letter g
