Week 15

Week 15 was another busy week packed full of visitors who came to speak about their jobs.

Mr. Yassin, the Nursery Security Guard, spoke about how he keeps us safe and stops unwanted people from entering the building.  He spoke about his uniform and how it identifies him as a Security Guard.

Mr Ibrahim, the local Traffic Police Officer, gave a fantastic demonstration to the children about his job and the signals that are used to stop and start the traffic and keep order on the streets.  He also spoke about how his uniform identies him as a Traffic Officer and showed the children the different signs that are used in the streets and what they mean.  The children loved his whistle!

The school Plumber, Mr. Jamal, came and demonstrated his tools that he uses when fixing leaks in pipes and taps.  The children learnt how important the job of the plumber is in order for us to have running water in our houses.

The Preschool children visited the Police Station in Street 1, Amarat and learnt all about the jobs of the different types of Police Officers.  We met the Senior Sergeant 'Agheed Osama' who spoke about the different uniforms and told us the meaning of the hand and eye on the Police logo.  We also met the Senior Traffic Police Officer and one of the Officers who maintains control during times of demonstrations, we discussed how to identify them by their different uniforms.  In addition to that we met many other male and female officers.  We were shown the handcuffs, the guns and the cells where prisoners are kept on a temporary basis.  The children took photos in the back of the Police Pick-up truck and on the Police Motorcycle.  The children realised that the job of the Police is very important and that they are good people who help us and protect us.  Both children and teachers alike were very pleased with the trip and I cannot stress enough how impressed we were with the cleanliness of the building and the friendliness of the staff.

Nursery children made traffic lights, guitars, wrote their names in sand, did tracing sheets and made lollipops to go along with the traffic police visit. The majority of the children are now using the correct pencil grip when using crayons for tracing and colouring.

Preschool children were introduced to the letter g this week, the oval shape and revised numbers 6-10. They made traffic signs, letter g grape collages, 3D rabbits, letter g sponge painting/stamping, odd one out sheets etc.

The children are coming on in leaps and bounds and their social skills are remarkable, even our most timid children have now formed close friendships with others.
