Week 16

This has been a very exciting week for the children.

Mr Matthew the Cobbler came and spoke to the children about his job.  He showed the children how to clean and shine a pair of shoes and how to fix a broken slipper.

Mr. Emad the Electrician spoke about how to stay safe around electricity.  He told the children that they shouldn't touch electrical devices including irons, microwaves, fridges, kettles etc. and the importance of wearing shoes and having dry hands when dealing with anything electrical.

Ms Nour and Mr Yousif, the gardeners came on Wednesday and spoke about their jobs.  They told us how they have planted grass seed, flowers and trees around our Nursery and school in order to make it look nice for us.  They showed us how to plant seeds in a pot and spoke about the importance of watering them every morning in order for them to grow.  They told us that the plants will grow well in a place that is shady for part of the day and sunny for the rest of the day.  Each child has decorated a plant pot ready to grow their own plant.  We have ordered some special soil and after the holiday we hope to plant our seeds and watch how they grow over the coming months.

On Thursday, we all went on a trip to the Fire Station which was a great experience for the children.  They had a ride in the Fire Engines with the sirens blaring, they had the chance to put out a fire and they watched a man being rescued from a manhole.  In addition to that they were told the importance of the job of the Firefighters and how they help us.  They got to see a variety of uniforms and equipment and learnt the number for the Firefighters in an emergency, which is 998.  The Lieutenant presented us with a special certificate and a fire extinguisher for bringing awareness of their importance to the children and the community.

Preschool children were introduced to the letter 'o' and the number 11 and did several activities to reinforce these.
