Week 19

It was a happy start back after the holiday with most of the children excited to be back and the addition of a new student in the Preschool class. This term, the children will be learning all about different types of animals. Nursery children are currently concentrating on Jungle/Zoo animals and Preschool children are learning about Farm animals, allowing us to make best use of the resources.  In addition to that, each child planted a seed in their own pot that they had previously decorated.  The children are watering their seeds daily and are anxious to see their plant grow.

Nursery children have started to learn some new songs including one about an elephant and another about frogs.  During circle time they are doing various activities from the Letters and Sounds scheme (Phase One, aspect 2). The activities promote speaking and listening through the use of musical instruments.  The children experience and develop awareness of sounds made with instruments and noise makers.  They listen to and appreciate the difference between sounds made with instruments.  They have done many different activities based around the theme of Jungle/Zoo animals, including making masks and handprint elephants.

Preschool children have been introduced to the letter 'c' and have done various activities to reinforce the sound the letter c makes and the way it is formed.  They have done activities based on number 12 being made up of 10 and 2 more and are discussing 'big' and 'small'.  They used the light box to investigate different types of seeds and sorted them into groups according to the types of seeds.  They learnt to recognise the different types of animals you find at the farm and also to match them with their babies.  They have discussed what products come from some of the animals.
